Water nymph

The water nymph (Naiad) is depicted elegantly and gracefully. She holds a jug in her left hand. It is a calm composition. The pose appears lively but not dramatic, like a quiet symbol of purity and harmony.

The original "Naiade" statue, crafted by Jean Jules Bernard Salmson, is currently housed in the Louvre Museum. The figure in question is a water nymph, a character in Greek mythology who is associated with fountains, springs, streams, and other forms of fresh water.

Jean Jules Bernard Salmson was born in Paris on July 18, 1823, the son of an engraver, and attended the École des Beaux-Arts. Following the exhibition of his works in the Parisian salons, he received numerous commissions for statues and sculptures. These works currently adorn some of the most renowned landmarks in Paris. One year after completing the Water Nymph, he was awarded the Legion of Honor.
